Welcome

Welcome to Stow-on-the-Wold & District Rugby Club and its Club Website.

The Club is affiliated to the Rugby Football Union and to the Gloucestershire RFU and is a thriving Club with Senior, Junior and Minis rugby football teams playing every week of the season.

Players, parents, supporters and visitors are all warmly welcomed to our Club.

Firthy

It is with the deepest sadness and shock that we learnt of the tragic death of Andy Firth in a motorcycle accident last Monday 18th May. Firthy had played Rugby at Stow for many years and was a great friend to the club. On the pitch he seemed invincible, no matter how hard he had been tackled he just shook himself off and got on with game. Off the pitch he had played a major part in the regenerartation of the club, spending many hours on his JCB doing various building works.

Firthy was one of those nice guys in life, we can all look back at the many fond memories we have of a very special friend who will be sadly missed.

Our thoughts are very much with Sue, Ben and Sam.

Firthy's funeral will take place at 11.30 AM on Tuesday 2nd June at Little Rissington.

In true Farmer style a request has been sent out not to wear black, we are celebrating his life, not mourning but as a mark of respect would all club members please wear blazer and tie so that we can form a guard of honour as he leaves the church.

Please be at Little Rissington Church for the service at 11.30 this Tuesday 2nd June

The Annual General Meeting is on Thursday 28th May

The Club Dinner on Friday 29th May has now been postponed for the time being.

Match Report

Stow Under 8's qualified earlier in March for the County Cup Plate Finals at Cleeve. The draw pitted them against Cirencester B in the Semi-Finals. They took to the field in confident mood and played some superb rugby to brush their opponents aside by 11 tries to 2.This win took them to the final where they would play Dursley. Stow quickly opened up a two try lead and indeed took a 5 try to 3 advantage in at the break. The second half saw Stow pull clear with 4 more tries with Dursley scoring two leaving Stow comfortable winners by 9 tries to 5.

A deserved win in reward for some very hard work put in by not just the County Cup team but the complete squad.

Amanda's Tasty Bites

Just to let you know that Amanda will be serving a hot meal in 'Wrighty's Bar' before every 1st XV home league game. The cost is only five pounds so why not come along and have some great food and conversation with your friends!

The Members' Bar is a superb facility. It can be hired for your private function. The main bar is also available for larger events such as Weddings and Functions.
